Bidgee Bunyip

As a part of my internship as Local Producer at the Cad Factory, to complete my final year of study towards a Masters of Therapeutic Arts Practice at MIECAT, Melbourne, I facilitated a textiles project along side Wagga Wagga based artist Julie Montgarrett with a committed group of artists inspired by their recollections of local Waradjuri stories of the Bunyip in Darlington Point.

These ‘Bidgee Bunyips’ imagine and bring life to the ancient Wiradjuri story of the dangerous bunyip who lurks in various locations along the marrambidya bila (Murrumbidgee River) waiting to gobble up little children! This clever cultural story was a way to keep children water safe and away from the most treacherous parts of the river.
